Hello and a very warm welcome to Scotch Irish.net, or as they say in Ulster "aboutye"

This site has been along time in coming, for far to long the Scotch Irish/Ulster Scots have been ignored and there many achievements forgotten. Simply put others have distorted the historical record and we don't know our history, of what we do know we don't understand.

We should be proud to be Scotch Irish, the impact we have had on the world is to say the least monumental and also disproportionate. By far our greatest achievement has to be the fact that we with a few others can lay claim to being the founders of the greatest nation on earth, the United States of America.

We also made Northern Ireland what it is to day and so with in this site we have tried to cover in as much detail as possible, the history and achievements of the Scotch Irish or Ulster Scots in the USA and Ulster.

Its not a site for academic's or historians its from a more modern and populist view but for those with an interest and those who simply haven't a clue and want to learn then this sites for you. "Canadian and Australian sections will be added soon"

Its a Scotch Irish / Ulster Scots site so you wont read any great things about the Irish or British, it defends our history, culture and heritage against decades of myth and propaganda. It aims to set the historical record straight and promote the Scotch Irish, Ulster Scots as a unique people which will hopefully lead to a better understanding.

It will let you see just how the Scotch Irish came to be, what they did, what they believe in, where they came from, where they went, what they did when they got there and who they are today. Its an amazing read and if you browse through it all then you really will feel a great sense of pride, if your Scotch Irish that is.

It also looks at the impact we have had on politics, industery, war and music especially American country which originated in Scotland, Ulster and then the Appalachian region of the USA.

We have also set up several forums, its a fully configurable system programmed in PHP4 & Msql. You the users can start new topics, debates and even start collecting information for a searchable data base. Its all very easy to use, just register and join in, remember its YOUR system, you run it and moderate it so the more of you who join the more potential it has.

Find old friends, track down lost family, post your knowledge and stories for others and future generations to read! the possibilities are endless.

Who are the Scotch-Irish?

A great majority of people who emigrated to America were Protestants from Ulster, many years before the potato famine. Most of these, in turn, were descendants of settlers brought in from Scotland. "Scotch-Irish" refers to those emigrants or to their descendants. "Whatever blood may be in the veins of the genuine Scotch-Ulsterman, one thing is certain, and that is that there is not mingled with it one drop of the blood of the old Irish or Kelt." John Walker Dinsmore

Famous Quote:

If all else fails, I will retreat up the valley of Virginia, plant my flag on the Blue Ridge, rally around the Scotch-Irish of that region, and make my last stand for liberty amongst a people who will never submit to British tyranny whilst there is a man left to draw a trigger.

George Washington, at Valley Forge.
