SALVATION FOR CONFEDERATES AND YANKEES

The twelve six-pointed stars first came to light on flags of the South: the 57th Georgia, 9th Mississippi and 1st Florida. These were Braxton Bragg's Battle Flags of 1862. They showed up again: a 1995 postage stamp featuring a uniformed Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, a photograph of Gen. Lee's overcoat as sewn by the ladies of Maryland, an Arkansas belt plate and an 1860 deck of playing cards. Then came the discovery of other Confederates who wore and/or appeared in photographs and drawings with the star(s) of six points: Col. John S. Mosby, Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, Gen. Leonidas Polk, Gen. Patrick L. Cleburne, Col. John Haskell, Col. John Henry Winder and Gen. Arnold Elzey to name only a few. A friend of mine and great-great-grandson of Gen. Joseph E. Johnston assured me that "...they were not Jewish" but admitted curiosity about the star's presence.

Another star can be found on the Army of the United States, Eighth Corps Battle Flag of 1862. It seemed more curious than other flags because it had a large, white six-pointed star and red "8" in the center. Now, the six-pointed star shined on both the North and South.

The last common circulation coin to have the star was the U.S. silver dollar of 1921. However, the most prominent six-pointed star on any coin was a three-cent piece issued from 1851 to 1873. The silver coin featured a large six-pointed star overlaid with United States shield. Its total mintage came to 42,728,340 coins--enough coinage for any common citizen to notice its star!

An associate put me onto the idea that eight was a salvation number. To my surprise there seemed to be an odd connection: Abraham circumcised Isaac on the eighth day (Acts 7:8), eight souls were saved aboard Noah's ark (1 Pet. 3:20), Noah was the eighth person saved (2 Pet. 2:5), there are eight attributes of a Christian (2 Pet. 5:1-7), there are eight appointments (1 Cor. 12:27), the body of Christ gathered on the "eighth" day of the week (Acts 20:7), on the cross there was "...from the sixth hour...darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour..." (Matt. 27:45) and "...about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Matt. 27:46). Man was created on the sixth day (Gen. 1:27) and six is his Bible number. Christ completed the eighth hour on the cross of salvation as stated "...unto the ninth hour..." Old Testament references to eight are: Exod. 22:30, Lev. 9:1, 12:3, 14:10, 14:23, 22:27, 23:36, 23:39, 25:22, Num. 29:29, 29:35 and 1 Kings 8:66.

After purchase of a guide for U.S. coins, the next step was to locate six-pointed stars on all American coins. Some stars were fat and some were thinly six-pointed. One 1795 silver dollar had on its reverse an eagle with clouds ("...a canopy" of Isa. 4:5) stretching from wingtip to wingtip. The wings and clouds encircle thirteen six-pointed stars. On the first page of this pamphlet is a copy of the Great Seal and at the top of the Seal is another encircling. Both the coin and Great Seal seem to coincide with the Scriptures of Deut. 32:10-12: "Jacob is the allotment of His inheritance...He encircled him, He cared for him...Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, That hovers over its young, He spread His wings and caught them. He carried them on His pinions. The Lord alone guided him, And there was no foreign god with him." The original Great Seal of 1782 had thirteen six-pointed stars in the pattern of a large six-pointed one. Other Scriptures about the Great Seal are found in: Exod. 19:4, Deut. 32:42-43 and 33:29.

The next breakthrough came from a children's coloring book on American flags. I was grateful for the drawings and information among the pages to be colored.

A second design (1782) for a crest of the United States of America shows Liberty with a crown of light rays (Isa. 62:1-3) and eight-pointed stars and a sash of six-pointed ones. She and George Washington hold between them a shield (Eph. 6:16) with eight-pointed stars. Also, hanging over Washington's head is a U.S.A. flag with a circle of thirteen six-pointed stars.

We are told Washington's Coat of Arms had stars and stripes to account for the Stars and Stripes. Interesting was the discovery that George Washington favored six-pointed stars. Unofficial flags had four-, five- and eight-pointed stars. Five-pointed ones are most often shown in fictitious paintings made from thirty to fifty years after the Revolution. My favorite contradiction is in the painting of Washington crossing the Delaware in Winter 1776. He is standing in a small boat on the way to the Battle of Trenton, N.J. As children we were taught that his standing was an entirely made up scenario. We did not realize how true the admission really was. At the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts is a painting of Washington at the Battle of Trenton (by C. W. Peale, 1779). In the more recent painting of Washington going to battle, the stars on his flag are five-pointed while the three-year-old artwork shows them in a circle and all having six points!

The real point is, with exception of the Navy's eight-pointed ones, all official United States flags and emblems once had six-pointed stars. However, it takes countless hours of discovery and research to track down evidence to the fact.

As far back as I can go, there is a painting titled, The Knightly Brotherhood of the Holy Land in Haarlem (1527-1530) and on one of its many shields appears three six-pointed stars in stick-like fashion. Sixteenth-century Cologne is shown in another work with three large stars, representing the Trinity, shining light down upon the German city. These three stars are fat, intermediate and thin in the design of their rays. An older image of the King James Palace's clock face shows a fat six-pointed star. Sometime in the Middle Ages a six-pointed star of thin rays could be seen in the Isles. Some call the latter an "English star."
The stick-like, fat, intermediate and thin six-pointed stars are all represented in stars of the American Revolution. Just in case you're wondering about the Betsy Ross flag, here is some excerpted text: "...brought a sketch of a flag to her Philadelphia upholstery shop in June1776. Washington supposedly asked her to make a copy of it for the nation that was about to declare its independence. She suggested a few changes, such as the use of a five-pointed star rather than a six-pointed one, and sewed the flag in her back parlor." Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia,1998.

That Betsy Ross suggested changes in the flag design of 1776 is one thing but examples do not support that her advice was approved or heeded by Washington: see the 1779 painting of the Battle of Trenton (1776), Great Seal (1782), Presidential inaugural buttons (1789), U.S.A. coins (1795-1921) and tribute paintings and drawings to George Washington (1798).

What do all these stars add up to? How do the numbers six and eight fit into the symbolism of our country's Founding Fathers? And how about that U.S. Army, Eighth Corps Battle Flag (1862) with the large, white six-pointed star and red "8" in the center?

A man by the name of C. Latham Sholes (a state senator and editor of several news-papers in Wisconsin) invented the first practical typewriter in 1867. In the next century an agreement was made by manufacturers placing the stick-like asterisk (*) with the number eight key. Yes, it's one of the country's historic relics from the past. The asterisk really is a star after all! You may as well call it a representation of Scripture and salvation on the keyboard.

Over the years, inventors have knocked the accepted and popular key arrangement as slower than their own but all newcomers have failed in the marketplace. Would these new-comers have selected the eight/six asterisk on their new keyboards?

Presently, we have that special combination though change is on the way. Microsoft has created new computer operating systems with the eight/five asterisk and become the latest player in overcoming this unique Christian relic. It seems those with the old eight/six asterisk key no longer match Windows 98 (First Edition), Windows CE or Windows 2000 Professional. Is this star so important that they’d change only one of two symbols on a single key? Is the five-pointed star to become another Microsoft recognized trademark? Unlikely--but there is another possibility. One through 13 keys with symbols parallel chapters in Genesis on the common keyboard, which might mean a very real Star Wars. (*see end of article).

MANIFEST DESTINY

The 19th-century political and philosophical belief that it was America's divinely assigned mission to expand westward across the North American continent and to establish democratic and Protestant ideals was known as Manifest1 Destiny. John O'Sullivan, a journalist, coined the phrase in a(n) 1845 newspaper editorial about the annexation of Texas, in which he spoke of America's "manifest destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development of our multiplying millions." The roots of the concept, however, can be traced to American and European writers of the colonial period and even earlier who professed the belief that the supplanting of the pagan practices of native peoples in the West was no less than an ordination from God. God's Plan Of Salvation

Scots/Irish Connections to the South (Confederacy)

Southern Scotland in the 16th Century To follow the route of the Scots-Irish people, we must look at the path taken by their church, the Presbyterian Church. And to better understand the culture and mind set of these immigrants, we must be aware of the history of their church. Scotland was first Christianized in the 5th and 6th centuries by great men of the church such as St. Columba, St. Kintigern, St. Ninian, etc. It was part of the Catholic Church for its entire Christian history up until the turbulent times of the 1500s. While the Reformation swept Europe and Protestantism took hold in England, there was initially very little support for Protestantism in Scotland. The Auld Alliance with France was still strong, and France was a very Catholic nation. This alliance was seen by many Scottish nobles as an unbalanced one, and it was a thorn in the side of the English, as we shall see later. When one reads of the Reformation in Scotland, the common complaints against the Church are that it was overly rich in its lands and overly corrupt in its clergy. To have a balanced look, one must also consider that this is the church whose many religious orders in Scotland had no property, owned no land, and subsisted on donations only. These holy monks and friars tended to the lepers and plague ridden, many dying in the effort. It was the Catholic Church that owned the only libraries in Scotland, and that ran the only grammar schools and universities in Scotland. As a whole, the people of Scotland had very little complaint against the Roman Catholic Church. What they did complain about was the clergy. Individual clergymen in the Church had become very corrupt by the 16th century. The reasons for this were plenty. The country was very thinly populated; the villages were far apart. It was very hard to maintain parishes or to supply priests. The priests who were there were over worked, understaffed and undereducated. Scotland was far from Rome, even farther in the days prior to modern transportation and communication methods. Corrupt clergy found that they could get away with most anything they chose, and the devout clergymen could do little more than complain about it. Catholics attempted many times to reform the Church in Scotland from within during the 16th century. Some of the Church’s harshest criticism came from these Catholic reformers. The Jesuit priest Father Nicholas Floris of Gouda remarked in 1562, “It is no wonder that with such shepherds, the wolves invade the flock of the Lord and ruin all.” The Jesuits were an order founded to confront Protestantism in Europe. Despite the corruption of part of the clergy, and the difficulties faced by the devout, Protestantism really didn’t have much influence on the Scottish people until John Knox stepped on the scene preaching his Calvinist sermons. The rise of the Protestant movement in Scotland, as it was in England, was not so much a movement from the people based on theological or ideological motives, as it was a movement spurned on by individuals with agendas that were political as well as theological. Knox’s biographer, Jasper Ridley, wrote, “Knox is one of the most ruthless and successful revolutionary leaders in history. . . . Dictators ancient and modern have killed their opponents whenever they considered that this was expedient. Revolutionary mobs have killed oppressors out of a desire for vengeance and justice. But Knox and his Puritans are the only modern revolutionaries who proclaimed that it was sinful not to kill their enemies.” Knox thought the Catholic Church was the instrument of the devil. He delighted when the Scottish Cardinal Beaton was assassinated. His own admirers describe him as narrow, bigoted and humorless. But his sincerity was never doubted and he was a renowned charismatic speaker who could move entire audiences to his will. One French Catholic who heard him speak said he had the power to control men’s souls. Knox first targeted the nobility of Scotland. As it had been in England, the Protestant movement began with the nobles, not the common man. There was a strong political movement among the nobility to end the alliance with France, who had so often used the Scottish soldiers to their benefit with seemingly little retribution, and encourage a strong alliance with England, thus consolidating the Isle of Britain. One major obstacle was the fact that England was a Protestant nation while France remained Catholic. Of course, were Scotland to become Protestant, this would no longer be an issue. Plus, the nobility were tempted by the great church land holdings. If the church no longer had claims to those lands, who would get them? It would not be the common man. The boiling point came one Sunday in a local parish church in Perth at which Knox was speaking. His speech so enflamed the gathered crowd that when a priest attempted to say mass afterwards, a riot broke out in which all of the statues of the church were destroyed. After ransacking that church, the mob moved out to other religious houses in the community. The Catholic Queen Mary responded to the mob riot by sending French troops in to quell it. The Protestants in turn invited English troops in to assist them in the rebellion. This Protestant army succeeded in taking Edinburgh in October of 1560. A few days later, French troops were able to reclaim the city, although temporarily, with the inhabitants rejoicing. The citizen's opinion of the Protestant army was that it was a mob of heretics and traitors. However, this “mob” did eventually win out over the Catholic troops, with 11,000 English soldiers assisting the 2,000 Scottish Protestants. On July 6, 1560, the treaty of Edinburgh declared Scotland and England allies, with England the “protector” of Scotland. All French troops were removed. In August of that year the Scottish Parliament abolished papal jurisdiction over Scottish churches and officially adopted a Calvinist confession drawn up by John Knox. The mass was outlawed. The Presbyterian Church was now the official church of Scotland. While the Highlands of Scotland remained largely Catholic, being too remote, and the inhabitants being too stubborn and too hardy to be converted by force, the Lowlands of Scotland were now effectively, legally, Protestant. Every adult was required by law to attend a Calvinist sermon on Sunday. The Presbyterian ministers were extraordinary preachers and public speakers. The people of the Lowlands must have noticed a sharp contrast between these hell-fire and brimstone preachers, trained in a tradition of effective preaching, and the lax, burned out, and/or corrupt Catholic priests they had known. The Presbyterian Church was intent on changing the morals of the people. Puritanism had come to Scotland. Modern Scottish songwriter, Brian McNeill, commented on this new morality when he wrote the lines, “Did ye no think to tell when John Knox himsel’ preached under yet branches sae black, to the poor common folk, who would lift up the yolk of the bishops and priests from their backs. But you knew the bargain he sold them, and freedom was only one part, for the price of their souls was a gospel so cold it would freeze up the joy in their hearts.” This is the mindset that would lead to the outlawing of Christmas, as it was "too Catholic" a holiday, and the public stoning of priests in the streets. The effective preaching and public education by the Presbyterian church in the Lowlands of Scotland left the Scots with a deep rooted suspicion for religious authority and a hatred of the old Catholic church that would effect their role in the Ulster plantation of the next century. Move to Ulster People have always moved back and forth across the Irish Sea. The Scotti tribe from northern Ireland were the first Gaelic speaking settlers of Scotland. During the Middle Ages mercenary soldiers from both sides crossed to support eachother’s armies. The great MacDonald clan at one time held Antrim, bringing northern Ireland under one rule with the Scottish west, in the Lordship of the Isles. In 1603 King James VI of Scotland inherited the English and Irish thrones, uniting the crowns and making him King James I of England, Scotland and Ireland. Of course, his rule in Ireland was titular only. There was really no effective rule to be had. James was a very Protestant king, and Ireland was still an extremely Catholic nation. James was of the opinion that the only way to pacify the recently conquered Irish was by planting Protestant, English speaking loyalists among them. Other plantation efforts had been attempted in Ireland, but this was to be the largest and most effective, the results of which can still be seen in the news headlines today. In 1607 two Ulster chieftains, the earls of Tyrone and Tyrconnell, fled to France rather than live under English rule. James confiscated their land, consisting of 3.8 million acres. He encouraged settlement on these new lands, by Scottish Presbyterians especially. James preferred Scots for the colony because, in his words, they were “of a middle temper between the English tender and the Irish rude breeding, and a great deal more like to adventure to plant Ulster than the English, it [Ulster] lying far both from the English native land, and more from their humour, while it [Ulster] lies night to Scotland, and the inhabitants not so far from ancient Scots manner.” James granted these lands to two major ranks of men. First were the undertakers-men of high rank who were granted between 1,000 and 2,000 acres and could rent only to Scottish or English tenants. Second were the servitors-military men and government administrators, who received similar grants but could also rent to the Irish. Some native Irish received small grants of 100 to 200 acres, and could likewise rent to Irish. Men were eager to move from their homes in southern Scotland to Ulster mainly due to economic reasons. Lowland Scotland in the 17th century was becoming overpopulated. The land was harsh. Rents were high. And Ulster was a familiar territory not that far away. Scots settling in Ulster could expect to rent land for a period of 21 to 31 years, sometimes longer (as much as three lifetimes). This was seen as a sure way to improve one’s economic standing. By 1619 over 8000 families had relocated to Ulster. By 1715 over 1/3 of Ulster’s 600,000 inhabitants were Scottish. The lands of Ulster lent themselves to the same farming practices that these families knew in Scotland. Large herds of sheep or cattle, supplemented by small crop farms, consisting of an infield that would be sewn and harvested each year and receive much fertilization, and an outfield that would be planted for a few years with no fertilization, then left fallow for several years to rejuvenate. There were three major ethnic groups and three religions in the Ulster plantation. These were English/Anglican, Scottish/Presbyterian, and Irish/Catholic. The Irish resentment of occupation by Protestants made them more devoutly Catholic than ever. They took to it as a badge of their ethnicity. The Anglican Church, because of the English conquest, was the official Church of Ireland. Penal laws were established for those who did not accept it. These laws often came into play among the Scottish Presbyterians as well, who found themselves more and more isolated as a religious community. The native Irish, though displaced from their land holdings, remained by and large as cheap laborers. They were extremely hostile towards the newcomers, however, whom they viewed as foreign heretics. Most of the estates of the landowners had to be walled and fortified. Surrounded by hostile Catholics and feeling oppressed by the government sanctioned Anglican church, Scottish Presbyterians became more and more defensive and intolerant of other religions. They were able to maintain close ties with the Presbyterian Church in Scotland by frequent back and forth travel of ministers. One common occurrence in both Ulster and Scotland was the “holy fair.” This was a large outdoor gathering marked by preaching of the hellfire and brimstone variety, a call for personal conversion as a mark of salvation, and meditation. Such gatherings often aroused strong emotional responses, resulting in crying, shouting and even fainting. There were differences between the Scottish and Irish Presbyterianism, however. In Scotland, it was the sanctioned church and had government support. In Ulster, no such support existed. Because of persecution in Ulster, the Presbyterian church there became very determined not to compromise or yield to outside forces. Local parishes were the strength of the church, each with its own interpretation of Calvinism. There was little authority or unity among them, other than the Calvinist framework. It was a very democratic and rather opinionated group. Across the Atlantic Society in the Ulster plantation consisted of a small landholding elite class that held economic and political supremacy over a large, poor body of tenants. The vast majority of these tenants, the Scots, were in an oppressed religious minority. They were subject to British rule as a colony. They were also recent immigrants who were not very attached to their homeland. The Scots had come to Ulster for a better life. In the 18th century, that life was not to be found. The population of Ulster had grown rapidly. The land had grown scarce. Rents were rising ever higher. The economy was poor. If you were a Presbyterian, that meant you could not take a role in the government. But you had to pay tithes to the Anglican church. This led many Presbyterian ministers to preach against the British authorities and encourage unrest and discontent among their congregations. In 1729, Ezekiel Stewart, a Donegal judge, wrote in a letter, “The Presbyterian ministers have taken their share of pains to seduce their poor ignorant hearers, by bellowing from their pulpits against the Landlords and the Clergy, calling them rackers of Rents, and Servers of Tithes, with other reflections of this nature, which they know is pleasing to their people, at the same time telling them that God has appointed a country for them to depart thence, where they will be freed from the bondage of Egypt and go to the land of Canaan.” This Promised Land was America, and sometimes entire congregations left for it, as in 1772 when Rev. William Martin led his 467 families to South Carolina. But religion was not the only motivation for migration. Rising rent, low wages, and low prices on goods, combined with period of crop failure left many people impoverished. Because of the population growth, farmable land was more scarce, and landlords could charge more and more rent. When leases expired, the land was rented out to the highest bidder. Many bid more money than they had just to obtain the land, leading to much debt in northern Ireland. Vast numbers of people left Ulster for America between the years 1717 and 1727, which corresponds to the end of the leases issued in the 1690s. The vast majority of those who left, though they did not necessarily know the economic causes of their hardships, knew enough that they blamed the English government. Edmond Kaine, an estate manager in County Monaghan, wrote in the early 1720’s that “money was never worse since I came here this 24 years than it is at this time for our market is all down. I know not the meaning of it, but it is believed here that it is occasioned by the hardship England is putting upon us.” Ulster was a British colony, the same as the Americas, only closer to home. She had the same import and export restrictions. Ulster could ship wool nowhere but to Britain. Linen was the only profitable crop they had, and when the linen prices fell, many small farmers had nothing left to subsist on. Migration to America became a more and more attractive option to many Ulster Scots. Since it was a part of the British Empire, there were no emigration restrictions, and no language barrier. A linen trade route existed between Ulster and Philadelphia and ships went back and forth across the Atlantic all the time. The American colonies had a labor shortage. Emigrants could expect to be paid well for their work. Many colonies encouraged white settlers to combat the number of Native Americans and African slaves. In the 1730s and 1760s South Carolina offered land, tools and seeds to white settlers, and this made Charleston a very popular port for Scots-Irish migration during those periods. There was cheap land in America, and lots of it. There were no landlords, no tithes, and no Penal laws. The migration began in the 1680s, but it really took off in the period following 1717. Some Catholics and Anglicans came across, but the vast majority of people leaving Ulster were Presbyterian Scots. Between 1717 and 1800 some 250,000 people left for America. There were 20,000 Anglo-Irish, 20,000 Irish Gaels, and the rest were Scottish. The average emigrant would find passage aboard a linen trade vessel. The ships would bring flax seed from Pennsylvania to Ulster, and the captains were happy to have a return cargo that could pay cash. Some Ulstermen paid their own way, while many had arranged to become indentured servants, selling their labor for a period of seven years. Many, though, had no way to pay. These souls, upon arrival in Philadelphia, would have to remain on board the ship until the captain was able to sell their labor and collect payment. In Pennsylvania and the Great Wagon Road Philadelphia was by far the most popular port for Scots-Irish migrants. This was due to the pre-established trade routes, the religious tolerance of the Pennsylvania colony, and the good, available farm land. And there was a great labor shortage there, to boot. Most of the Scots-Irish became farmers in Pennsylvania, as they had been in Ulster. Beginning around 1730, the population of the colony really exploded and by 1740 good farm land was becoming scarce. The prices for land rose, and Scots-Irish settlers began to occupy lands in western Pennsylvania. Here they settled among the Germans, English, Welsh, Swedes, and American Indians. Though they were largely defensive and intolerant of others in Ulster, here they did pick up some things from their neighbors, such as the mountain dulcimer and the practice of building log cabins. The mark of the Scots-Irish can best be seen in their church. The first Presbytery in America was founded in Philadelphia in 1706. By 1718 there were 13 Presbyterian churches in Pennsylvania. By the 1730s the Scottish ministers could no longer fill the demand for pastors and Presbyterian ministers began to be trained and educated at American schools. As more and more Scots-Irish settlers came to Pennsylvania, land became scarce and prices began once more to rise. Scots-Irish settlers would often squat on a piece of land and never claim it or pay for it. This was in part due to their poverty, but also due to their use of the land, farming a field until it was barren and then moving on. This led to them being very mobile. Since these families did not have roots in the land, so to speak, the cheap and fertile land of the Virginia Valley attracted many Scots-Irish. There were no hostile Indians there, and Colonial Virginia encouraged settlers in the area. The Germans were actually the first to stake claims there, in 1726-30, but the Scots-Irish soon followed. Migration was starting to be a hallmark of Scots-Irish culture now. The Swannanoa Valley of Virginia was also a large trade route between the middle and the southern colonies. There was a lot of traffic on the Great Wagon Road, and settlers here saw men moving north and south all the time. In time, the Presbyterian missionaries moved south. Then the cattle drivers began to move south. The settlers soon followed. Many of the same Scots-Irish who had bought the cheap land in Virginia, and had turned it into nice farmstead, now sold that developed land to new Scots-Irish migrants at a profit, and used the money to buy even more land, at even cheaper prices in the Carolinas. Home to North Carolina Most of the Scots-Irish settlers in the Carolinas came first to the Piedmont. Some continued south to South Carolina, but many stayed. In 1730, the population of North Carolina was 36,000, mostly on the coast. In 1750 it had risen to 70,000 and in 1770 it was 180,000, with most of the growth being in the Piedmont region. Migrants came to this area from the Great Wagon Road in the north, as well as from the port of Charleston in the south. Land in the Piedmont was even cheaper than it was in Pennsylvania or in Virginia. There were fewer problems with hostile Indians. There was rich soil and abundant game. Many in North Carolina did their best to promote settlement far and wide. Arthur Dobbs was an Ulsterman who was granted land in Mecklenburg and Cabbarus counties in NC. He actively promoted settlement in North Carolina among the Ulster Scots. William Byrd II wrote in 1731 that “North Carolina is a Very happy Country where people may live with the least labour that they can in any part of the world.” Many writers of his day agreed with him, making North Carolina one of the most popular destinations for the emigrant. But this time the Scots-Irish got there first, and got the best of the land. They continued to use the same agricultural techniques as they had in Ulster. They maintained livestock, supplemented by crops, using simple tools and an almost wasteful land management policy. Some of the land taken from the Native Americans had already been cleared for use in farming, and a few settlers used this land for intensive, permanent agriculture. But the majority of the Scots-Irish preferred instead to clear their own land, farm around the stumps, and when the land was exhausted, clear more. This slash and burn method of farming was a hallmark of the Piedmont farmers. The livestock was branded and left free to graze in the uncleared areas, gaining a profit from that land as well. This frontier, advantageous as it was to farming and settlement, gave rise to unique challenges for the Presbyterian Church. The Calvinist virtues of individualism and self-sufficiency did well here, but the Christian virtues of kindness, compassion and humility suffered. The Scots-Irish people loved their faith and desperately clung to it. Yet the Presbyterian Church required an educated clergy, stressed an educated laity, and relied on an organized structure connected through presbyteries and synods. This simply could not work on the frontier. Presbyterian missionaries from Pennsylvania did establish churches in North Carolina. The first churches west of the Yadkin river were all Presbyterian. Yet many of these congregations had to wait years for a pastor to be found. They were sheep without shepherds, and many strayed. Revolution Most of the Scots-Irish were very independent, self-reliant, and very resistant to British rule. This was a character trait brought with them from the Ulster plantation where they suffered so much at the hands of the ruling British. In 1767 the Rev. Charles Woodmason, an Anglican clergyman, wrote of the Carolina Piedmont, “Not less than 20 Itinerant Presbyterian, Baptist and Independent Preachers are maintain’d by the Synods of Pennsylvania and New England to traverse this Country Poisoning the Minds of the People-Instilling Democratical and Commonwealth Principles into their minds-Embittering them against the very name of Bishops, and all Episcopal Government and laying deep their Republican Notions and Principles-Especially That they owe no Subjection to Great Britain-That they are a free People-That they are to pay allegiance to King George as their Sovereign-But as to Great Britain or the Parliament, or any there, that they have no more to think of or about them than the Turk or Pope-Thus do Itinerant Preachers sent from the Northern Colonies pervert the Minds of the Vulgar.” The Scots-Irish in the Piedmont struggled often, sometimes violently, against the colonial government on the coast for much of the 1760s, and this was a forerunner of what was to come. More people settling the Piedmont meant more people moving westward towards the mountains. The British government did not want settlers on Cherokee land, however. This caused conflict with many Scots-Irish who intended to settle there, and eventually a settlement in Watauga in east Tennessee was established, albeit illegally. These Scots-Irish settlers were now fighting a British enemy and a Cherokee one. The British authorities would often entice the Cherokee to violence against the settlers, as in the French and Indian War. When the Revolution started in 1776, the British once more utilized the Cherokee to attack the settlers. Gen. Griffith Rutherford, and Ulsterman, led an expedition across the Blue Ridge Mountains that effectively removed the Indian threat. Marching with him was Rev. James Hall, a prominent Presbyterian minister. This was the first view many Scots-Irish would have of their future mountain home. The Scots-Irish were heavily involved on the patriot side of the Revolutionary War. They viewed it as an extension of the conflict they had been having with the British for a long time. After the Revolution, the new NC state government gave large land grants to Revolutionary War veterans. This encouraged many of the Ulstermen who had been on Rutherford’s expedition to seek new land in the mountains, and push the frontier farther west. The Southwestern Appalachians Many ethnic groups settled the southwestern mountains of North Carolina. There were English, German, French, Welsh, and African American. But the largest group of all was the Scots-Irish, making up at least a third of all settlers to the region, coming from the Great Wagon Road and from the Watauga settlement. In 1790 there were 88 families in the Blue Ridge Mountains. 40% of them were of Ulster stock. In 1800 there were 888 families, 43% of Ulster stock. According to Doctors Curtis Wood and Tyler Blethen of Western Carolina University, the percentages may actually have been 15% higher, if one counts those names of uncertain origin that may have come from Ulster. Scots-Irish certainly held a high percentage of leadership positions. Sixty percent of landowners in Buncombe and Haywood counties who owned more than 1000 acres between 1788 and 1810 were Scots-Irish. Ten out of 16 landowners in the new town of Asheville were Scots-Irish. One half of the justices of the peace and five of seven office holders in Buncombe in 1792 were Scots-Irish. The Scots-Irish were finally seeming to flourish. The same could not be said of their church. The Presbyterian Church was the first in the area. It came in with the first Ulster Scot settlers. James Hall was the central figure in promoting the Presbyterian church here. He and other missionaries founded churches and schools in the mountains. It was increasingly difficult to maintain this activity, however. In 1804 James Hall reported that the Great Awakening that was sweeping the country had led to “wild and delusive fanaticism” and “horrid and extravagant conduct.” He complained of the lack of educated ministers and vacant churches. Some Presbyterian churches began to employ ministers of other denominations just to fill the demand. After 1810, there was a rapid growth of Baptist and Methodist churches in the mountains. Many Scots-Irish Presbyterians began to attend these churches rather than give up their faith lives altogether. In 1840 there were only 7 Presbyterian churches serving a total of 300 people in all of southwestern NC. In 1850 there were 37 Baptist and 32 Methodist churches in the same area. The independent structure of these churches, and the fact that they did not require an educated clergy, made them perfectly suited to a frontier environment. Some of the Presbyterian influence of course survived. The holy fairs from Ulster were still practiced in these new denominations. But now the more conservative Presbyterian clergy though them too emotional and flamboyant. It would seem that in the end, the Presbyterian church in southwestern NC was, ironically, to suffer the same fate as the Catholic Church in southern Scotland. A lack of properly educated clergy, and a few motivated, radical preachers would change the religious face of an entire people. From Catholicism, the original church of Scotland, to Presbyterianism, these people held on to their faith, and indeed defined themselves by it, in Ulster. They carried it with them across the Atlantic, deep into the mountains of North Carolina. And here they found themselves shifting from Presbyterianism, the original church of the mountains, to the Baptist and Methodist movements. Bibliography Blethen, H. Tyler and Curtis W. One thing is for certain. The more you get around the OO the more fables you read which Anglo-Israelism and American Israelism truly is. The beginning of Anglo-Israelism began in the early 1800's and grew up around the British people. The idea is that they are the 10 lost tribes of Israel and its total rubbish like the same for American Israelism. It was a Scots astonomer who finally calculated it all out by some far-fetched star and thus made the throne of England the waiting throne of Christ. The theory of Anglo-Israelism has been denounced by all of the major denominations here in the Untied States.

The OO is deeply connected to British Israelism since the candidate is indoctrinated into believing that he is of the Tribe of Levitte. Something that is ulitmately impossible to prove.

If you certainly believe in the triumphantism of the OO than the idea of Providence and Manifest Destiny is not that much different. It was Christians and the Protestant monarchs who say the New World as heathen and brought with them slavery and exterminated the Native Americans of America. Being heathens they were expendable for God's purpose. So the slave trade continued and lands that should have been arranaged by treaty were stolen by the newly arriving European Protestants.

Simply put watch what you read here. This is truly a questionable web site.

What is the point to all of this piffle? John Knox was truly a revoultionary but at the sametime the Scottish Englightment has a far greater affect on Britain and Ireland. I would not be so daring as to give Knox the toral credit for it and amongst s few Puritans as well. Knox had only one thing in his favour and that was his use of Scottish language that excited the crowds he spoke to.

What are all of the Old Testament verses for? They are completely out of context. I think you are trying to make an American-Israelism connection that is not there.

AN OPEN LETTER TO ANY MINISTER WHO TEACHES "THE JEWS ARE ISRAEL"

DEAR MINISTER OR BIBLE TEACHER:

I understand you believe that the people we know today as "Jews" are God's "Chosen People," the Israel people of the Bible. You, and others, call them "The Chosen Race," "God's Chosen People," "Israel," "The Children of Israel," and other very complimentary names in relation to God. I also understand you believe the Jewish occupation of Palestine to be the prophetic "return of Israel" to "their" land.

Since it is Israelites "to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises" (ROMANS 9:4) it behooves us as Christian Americans to know as much about God's Chosen Israel and His Book as we can.

The information on these pages has been compiled in Christian love and a desire to stimulate your study of "the People of the Book".

ISRAEL

1. Regarding the migration of the Jews to Palestine: by 1976, 28 years after the United Nations' approval of the Jewish occupation of that land, there were only 2.9 million Jews there compared to over 8 million in the United States.

2. Jews can leave "communist" nations almost at will, yet few choose to do so, and more remain in Russia than are in the Jewish state in Palestine. By 1975 Jews were leaving Palestine faster than they were moving there. The following is a direct quote from Parade Magazine November 23, 1975: "Three years ago more than 50,000 immigrants settled in Israel. Last year only 22,000 settled there. This year the estimate is only 15,000...Last year 21,000 Israelis left their country. This year a similar number will depart." Other sources indicate many come to the U.S. and some return to Russia.

3. Of all the followers of Judaism in the world, less than 17% are now in Palestine.

4. God prophesied to dispersed Israel: "I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land." (EZEKIEL 36:24) Are these Jews being gathered from heathen lands or from Christian?

5. God goes on: "Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean...A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: And I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, And I will give you a heart of flesh." Should this mean the Israelites were to become Christians in their new land?

6. The balance of EZEKIEL 36 promises great material blessings which would bring awe from among the heathen. The Jewish Committee for Israeli, to the contrary, admits that if it were not for American money and from the Israeli Bonds sold in America, ISRAELI WOULD BE BROKE AND WOULD COLLAPSE! (Read EZEKIEL 36)

7. Most Christian ministers preach from EZEKIEL 38 and 39 to prophesy an invasion of Jewish Palestine by Russia (Gog and Magog). But 38:11 describes the land of Israel to be invaded as "the land of unwalled villages...them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates." Israeli villages are walled and its borders wire, mine fields, machine gun nests, and tanks to keep out the "heathen" who are in awe, not of the Jew's blessings, but of their armaments AND AMERICA'S PROMISE TO PROTECT THEM!

JEWS "ALL OF ISRAEL?"

8. Some of you preach the Jews who came back from Babylon (4th century B.C.) are "all of Israel," but Dr. Scofield states on page 529 of THE SCOFIELD REFERENCE BIBLE, "Probably individuals from all of the tribes returned to Jerusalem under Zerubbabel, Ezra and Nehemiah; but, speaking broadly, the dispersion of the ten tribes, Ephraim-Israel, still continues: NOR CAN THEY NOW BE POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED." In other words, of the Israelites dispersed in the ASSYRIAN CAPTIVITY (2 KINGS 17:6-23), most never returned to Palestine AND THEIR DECENDANTS ARE NOT NOW KNOW AS "JEWS!"

9. Cruden, compiler of CRUDEN'S CONCORDANCE, has stated: "And it is generally believed that there was no return from this captivity (referring to the Assyrian Captivity of the Ephraim-Israel, or northern, kingdom), and that the 10 Tribes never came back after their dispersion." So we see that both Scofield and Cruden agree there must now be descendants of Israelites NOT KNOWN AS "JEWS".

10. Flavius Josephus, in his ANTIQUITIES OF THE JEWS, says in Book XI, Chapter V, "Wherefore there are but two tribes in Asia and Europe subject to the Romans, while the ten tribes are beyond the Euphrates till now, and are an immense multitude, and not to be estimated by numbers." He wrote about the time of Christ.

11. The 1905 JEWISH ENCYCLOPEDIA, Vol. 21, page 249 reads: "If the Ten Tribes have disappeared, they must exist UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME." Again, they must be a people NOT called "Jews."

12. From the JEWISH QUARTERLY REVIEW of July 1903, page 106: "The career of the Jews can be traced without difficulty...until the present day. OF THAT OF THE ISRAELITES (emphasis added), however, nothing authentic is known after their departure from their fatherland to Halah and Hebor...and the cities of the Medes. (2 Kings 17:6) With the beginning of their captivity they seemed to have passed from all human knowledge." Yet you ministers stand in front of your congregations and tell them, "The Jews are all of Israel."

13. Many other Jewish sources verify that those we call "Jews" are NOT all of Israel. Isaac Leiser, in THE JEWISH RELIGION, Vol. 1, page 256, writes, "By this return of the captives (from Babylon) the Israelitish nation was not restored, SINCE THE TEN TRIBES...WERE YET IN BANISHMENT."

14. THE JEWISH CHRONICLE, May 2, 1879: "There has always been, however, an unwillingness to admit that a fate which has befallen so many nations has overtaken the Ten Tribes. Why should they have been less tenacious of life than their brethren of Judah? Nay, the Scriptures speak of a future restoration of Israel, which is clearly to include both Judah and Ephraim. THE TEN TRIBES ARE CERTAINLY IN EXISTENCE, ALL THAT HAS TO BE DONE IS TO DISCOVER WHICH PEOPLE REPRESENT THEM." (emphasis added .)

15. The JEWISH QUARTERLY REVIEW of October 1888 carried an article by Dr. Ad. Neubauer titled "Where are the Ten Tribes?" It is too long to be quoted in its entirety, but he does arrive at the conclusion the Ten Tribes are still "missing." Do you still insist the present-day "Jew" represents "all of Israel?"

ANCIENT ISRAELITES NOT "JEWS"

16. Most of you ministers call Abraham a "Jew", but no people in the Holy Scripture were called "Jews" until 2 Kings 16:6, over 1,000 years after Abraham, Isaac and Jacob!

17. You preachers often speak of the Exodus as being the deliverance of the "Jews" from Egypt; but the Holy Bible calls them "Israelites," the "House of Jacob," "Hebrews," "Israel," and God calls them "the children of Israel" 122 times in the Book of Exodus. Neither Moses nor God EVER called them "Jews," yet you do. Why?

18. You often quote the promises in GENESIS to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as referring to the Jews. In Genesis 17:5, God promised Abraham he would be "a father of many nations." The Jews are not "many" nations.

19. In GENESIS 22:12 God said to Abraham, "In Isaac shall they seed be called." Are the Jews called "sons of Isaac," or "Isaacsons," or "Saacsons," or "Saxons?"

ISRAEL IN FULFILLED PROPHECY

20. Abraham's seed were to be as "The sands of the sea" as promised in GENESIS 22:17. In GENESIS 24:60 Rebekah, Isaac's wife, was promised to be "mother of thousands of millions." At the time of the Exodus, Moses prophesied to Israel that God was to make of them "a thousand times so many as ye are." (DEUT 1:11) There were over 3,000,000 Israelites then, and over 15,000,000 at the time of David, yet you insist that 15,000,000 Jews today, 3000 years after David, are "all of Israel!" How do you give honor to God when your teachings make Him a liar?

21. The "New Covenant," as recorded in JEREMIAH 31, was made with "the house of Israel." Hebrews 8 verifies it with "the house of Israel and with the house of Judah." Yet your teaching is to the effect that this Covenant, which was to make Israel a Christian people, just didn't work with "God's People the Jews," but that a "Gentile" Race, the White Race, somehow just happened to accept the "New Covenant." Just who is this "Race" which seems to have "usurped" Israel's place?

22. Israel was divided after the death of Solomon. Millions of Israelites of the Northern Kingdom called "the house of Israel" went into the Assyrian captivity after 740 B.C. and were lost to Bible History. But secular histories recorded millions of the White Race appeared suddenly in that same area about 700 B.C.! They became the Christian people of Europe and then America. Hosea had prophesied to the house of Israel before they went into captivity, "Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea...and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not My people, there is shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God." In Europe, America, South Africa, and Australia, where we are told we are NOT God's People (Israel), we are told by the millions that we "are the sons of the living God!"

23 You insist that Jesus came to the Jews, but in John 10:25 Jesus said to the Jews, "But ye believed me not BECAUSE YE ARE NOT OF MY SHEEP (emphasis added) as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." Which people are the "sheep" who knew Him and have followed Him the last 1,900 years?

24. At the time of Judah Kingdom was destroyed in 586 B.C. by the King of Babylon, the prophet Jeremiah prophesied to the house of Israel, "You are my battle ax and weapons of war. With you I will break in pieces the nations, and with you I will destroy kingdoms." Since that time have the Jews broken up heathen nations and destroyed pagan rule?

25. Airplanes were prophesied for Israel. "Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?" (ISAIAH 60:8) What people make and fly 99% of the world's airplanes?

26. "The abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee." (ISAIAH 60:5) What people build and operate the great merchant and fishing fleets of the earth?

27. "In DEUTERONOMY 15:6 God promised Israel that "Thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow: and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee." What people lend and give money to the heathen nations? What people have always been rulers of the heathen, but have never had any other Race rule over them?

28. A detailed blessing was given to Joseph through Moses in DEUTERONOMY 33:13-16. "And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land. (his own land separate from the rest of Israel?) for the precious things of heaven (spiritual) for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath (rain and wealth of the seas), And for the precious fruits brought froth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon (abundant harvest of agricultural products) And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills, And for the precious things of the earth and fullness thereof (mineral wealth, oil and coal, gas, etc.) and for the good will of Him that dwelt in the bush (the favor of God, who appeared to Moses in the bush) let the blessings come upon the head of Joseph." This prophesy promised Joseph's descendants great material wealth, blessings and protection. One Race of people on this earth have always had abundant harvests. All others have always been short of food. One Race mines the ores, drills the oil wells, digs the coal and converts the "precious things of the earth" into the goods and services of "Modern civilization." Other Races live as they did millenniums ago!

29. Israel was the only people ever promised by God that He would answer their prayers and watch over them. What people have prayed to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob down through the last score of centuries, have had their prayers answered, and have been prospered by Him while the other Races sit in heathen darkness? If the White, Nordic Race is REALLY just like the colored Races, why did the God of Abraham, choose ONLY the white Race in which to establish HIS WORSHIP? Why are only WHITE nations known as CHRISTIAN nations?

30. In PSALM 147 God said, "He sheweth His Word unto Jacob, His statutes and His judgments unto Israel, HE HATH NOT DEALT SO WITH ANY NATION AS FOR HIS JUDGEMENTS THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN THEM." The White Race prints and worships from millions of copies of "His statutes and His judgments:" and only Israel was to have them. Does this make God a liar; or is the White Nordic Race Israel?

31. In MATTHEW 15:24 Jesus said, "I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Was His entire mission a farce? Your teaching seems to make it so.

32. In ISAIAH 62:2 God said to Israel, "Thou shalt be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord shall name." HOSEA 2:17 reads, "They shall no more be remembered by their name." In ISAIAH 65 God said to the enemies of His servant Israel, "And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto My chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, AND CALL HIS SERVANTS BY ANOTHER NAME." (emphasis added) These "enemies" are yet called by their ancient name of "Jew," but Israel lost her name and identity, became the "Caucasian" Race (from the mountains of our captivity), and now the "Christian" nations, named after the Name of our God and our Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, FULFILLING HIS PROPHECIES TO ISRAEL!"

33. Through JEREMIAH the Lord God told Israel, "I will take you one of a city, and two of a family and bring you to Zion: And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding." (3:14-15) God brought over 40 million Caucasians to America (Zion) in one 50-year period, the greatest mass migration in all of human history, AND THEY HAD BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN MINISTERS! Yet you preach the migration of a handful of atheistic and agnostic "Jews" to old Palestine, with their Rabbis who curse the Name of Jesus Christ, is "the fulfillment of the prophecies of the regathering of God's People Israel to their land!" What nonsense you preach from God's pulpits.

ESAU-EDOM AND THE "JEWS

34. In the GENESIS 25 story of Esau selling the birthright to Jacob, we read that he sold it for "red pottage...therefore was his name called Edom." Edom means "Red."

35. GENESIS 28:9 tells us that ESAU went "unto Ishmael and took unto the wives he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael," GENESIS 36:2 says he also "took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibaman the daughter of Anah the Daughter of Zibeon the Hivite." So these descendants of Esau would be called ISHMAELITES, CANAANITES, HITTITES, AND HIVITES! The very people God later ordered Israel NOT to marry!

36. God makes sure we know of the separation of Esau and Jacob (Israel), for GENESIS 36:6 tells us, "Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters...and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob." Therefore Esau's offspring would NOT take husbands and wives from the Hebrews, BUT FROM THE ISHMAELITES AND CANAANITES AMONG WHOME THEY DWELT! In a few generations they would be almost full-blooded Ishmaelites and CANAANITES.

37. The rest of GENESIS 36 tells us four times that Esau "is Edom" and the "father of Edomites." Adding this up we would expect Esau's progeny to be known as Ishmaelites, Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, or collectively as "EDOMITES." Remember as you read on that Edom means "Red."

38. Several hundred years later when God delivered the Israelites from Egypt, NUMBERS 20 tells us THE FIRST PEOPLE TO FIGHT THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL WERE THE "EDOMITES!" All the books of history in the Bible tell of enmity and war between Israel and "Edom." As I've shown, the Exodus Israelites were NOT called "Jews". Only Israelites of the Judah Kingdom (500 years after the Exodus) were called Jews, from the name "Judahite," (2 Kings 16:6)

39. In the book of Esther, when the king sent out the decree to protect the "Jews" (who were the Judahites of the Babylonian captivity), "many of the people of the land BECAME JEWS: for the fear of the Jews fell upon them." (ESTHER 8:17) This king ruled "from India unto Ethiopia" compassing the territory occupied by the Hittites, Hivites, Jebusites and Canaanites, so it is probable that tens of thousands of these people collectively known as "EDOM" professed the name "Jew" to escape the king's wrath. They were NOT descendants of Jacob-Israel, though they had now become "Jews." This was 500 years BEFORE Christ.

40. EZRA 9:1 after the Jewish remnant returned to Palestine, we find they took wives among the Hittites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and the Amorites; thereby adding more of "Edom" to the "Jews" who lived in Jerusalem at the coming of Jesus Christ.

41. Coming down through history to near the time of Christ we find that Flavius Josephus states that the "Idumeans" (Edomites) became part of "Jewry," as we have seen from the book of ESTHER. This would explain why some "Jews" believed the Christ, and other "Jews" hated Him. Those who believed were simply the ones of Israelite ancestry; while those who hated Him were of Esau-Edom! Now go back and read #23 and 32 before you go on!

42. The BIBLICA ENCYCLOPEDIA, Vol. 2, Col. 1187, says that the Edomites are part of Jewry. The scientist and historian Dr. David Davidson wrote: "Indeed the Edomites later became completely absorbed in Jewry and under their aggressive intrusion the Jews became racially the medium of expression for the Edomite ideal for which Herod the Great had first given political formation. The Edomite intrusion into Judaism AT EVERY HISTORICAL POINT OF CONTACT is fully discussed in the volumes of the Cambridge Ancient History. The History of the latest phase of the intrusion (absorption or inter-marriage) is in the summary of the Encyclopedia Biblica, Volume 2, Col. 1187 (he then quotes that). Even the fact that the Edomites have at length BECOME JEWS was soon completely forgotten by the exponents of Jewish tradition." (It is this "tradition" which Christian ministers have been tricked into preaching instead of the truth.)

43. The JEWISH ENCYCLOPEDIA, edition of 1925, Vol. 5, page 41, states "Edom is in modern Jewry."

KHAZARS AND THE "JEWS"

44. H.G. Wells, in his great OUTLINE OF HISTORY verifies what we have just read, that millenniums ago the Edomites became "Jews." But then he goes on and gives us another trial to follow in correctly identifying the people today "who call themselves Jews." He says that these "Idumeans" joined with a "Turkish" people of Southern Russia (the Khazars), who also "became Jews," and BOTH make up the present day "Jews." Mr. Wells concludes, "The main part of Jewry NEVER WAS IN JUDEA AND HAD NEVER COME OUT OF JUDEA!" (emphasis added) How about reading some history Reverend Minister?

45. Funk & Wagnall’s JEWISH ENCYCLOPEDIA has a map showing the religions of Europe in the 10th century. And area north of the Black sea is marked "JEWS (Chazars)" and the two words are used INTERCHANGEABLY in many old Jewish books. Speaking of these "Jews." Col. John Beaty, former U.S. Intelligence Officer, writes in his book IRON CURTAIN OVER AMERICA, "As time passed, it came about that these Khazar people of mixed non-Russian stock, who hated the Russians and lived under Babylonian Talmudic law, became known in the western world, from their place of residence and their legal-religious code, as Russian Jews." Tens of thousands of these non-Israelite "Jews" migrated to America prior to 1880. Millions have come since.

46. Prof. Roland B. Dixon, of Harvard, wrote in 1923, "The most important single factor, however, in the differentiation of these Jews of the Asiatic borderland...WAS THE CONVERSION TO JUDAISM IN THE EIGHTH CENTURY OF THE KHAZARS. In these (Khazars )...We may in all probability see the origin of the great mass of the east European Jews of today."

47. Nathan M. Pollock, A Khazar-Jew, spent 40 years researching the origin of his fellow "Jews". He says that six out of ten in Palestine, AND NINE OUT OF TEN IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE (AMERICA) ARE NOT REAL JEWS, BUT DESCENDANTS OF THE FIERCE KHAZAR TRIBES WHICH ROAMED THE STEPPES OF SOUTHERN RUSSIA MANY CENTURIES AGO." He states that the names Halperin, Halpern, Alpert, Galpern, etc. are 100% Khazar. Also Kaplan, Caplon, Koppel, Kogan, Kaganovich (Russianized) and similar derivative names. (THE JEWS THAT AREN'T, San Diego Union. Aug 28, 1966) His findings, and many others too numerous to list in this tract, corroborate the Khazar ancestry of most modern "Jews."

48. The Khazar-Jews of Europe and America have always had an affinity to their Mongol brethren of Asia. The Jewish movie "czars" of filthy, corrupting Hollywood are often called "moguls," a term dating back to the Khan "Moguls," or "rulers," of Genghis Khan. It is simply a Mongol identification, NOT an Israelite one.

MODERN "JUDAISM" COMES FROM BABYLON

49. Professor H. Graetz, in his long HISTORY OF THE JEWS, Vol. II, Pub. 1893, page 631, says of the Jewish Talmud, among many other things, "The Babylonian Talmud is especially distinguished from the Jerusalem or Palestine Talmud...(then follows the comparisons)...it was for this reason that the BABYLONIAN rather than the Jerusalem Talmud became the fundamental possession of the Jewish Race, its life breath, its very soul..."

50. In Harmsworth's HISTORY OF THE WORLD is a section on "The Hebrew Peoples" written by Dr. H. Winckler, L.M. King, Dr. R.G. Brandis, and H.R. Hall. On pages 1781-4, Vol. 3 they show that, "Judaism was not evolved in Judah; it was in Babylonth that Judaism first became that which it was and still is." In other words, JUDAISM, rather than being the religion of ancient Israel, as you tell your flock, IS THE RELIGION OF ISRAEL'S ANCIENT, PAGAN ENEMY, BABYLON!

51. In the same book above the same authors say the distinction between Israel and Judah "can best be expressed in the phrase, which may sound paradoxical, but yet aptly characterizes the true relationship of the two people: THE ISRAELITES WERE NOT JEWS!" (emphasis added)

52. Quoting H.G. Wells' OUTLINE OF HISTORY again, "Judaism is indeed the reconstructed political ideal of many shattered peoples...it is to the Phoenician contingent and to Aramean accessions IN BABYLON that the financial and commercial tradition is to be ascribed." So even their "economic" ideas come from Babylon! It is much more than coincidental that "BABYLON THE GREAT, MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH" (REV. 17 & 18) is an "economic" system of oppression!

COMMUNISM AND THE "JEWS"

53. Speaking of an "economic system of oppression," that fits communism (socialism), and Rev. Denis Fahey, in his THE MYSTICAL BODY OF CHRIST IN MODERN WORLD writes, "According to the data furnished by the Soviet press, out of 556 important functionaries of the Bolshevik State (1918-1919)...457 (were) Jews." (Reverend, as you know by reading the precious points, the name "Jew" no longer means "Israelite", so you know the ones we speak of from here on are of Esau-Edom, Khazar, and Mongol ancestry, now called "Jews")

54. Six men led the Bolshevik revolt in Russia: Lenin, Trotsky, Zinoviev, Kamenev, Sverdlev, and Lunacharsky. Five were Jews, Trotsky's real name was Lev Bronstein, Lenins was Hiam Goldmann. Their plan was written by Karl Marx, son of a Jew Rabbi.

55. Michal Hrushevsky in his A HISTORY OF THE UKRAINE, Yale University Press, 1941, says, "In 1897 was founded the Bund, the union of JEWISH WORKERS in Poland and Lithuania...They engaged in revolutionary activity upon a large scale, and their energy made them THE SPEARHEAD OF THE (communist) PARTY."

56. You know the story of Lenin and the sealed train crossing Europe with his followers to take control of the Russian revolution. But did you know that "Out of a list of 165 names published, 23 are Russian, 3 Georgian, 4 Armenian, 1 German, and 128 JEWISH?" (The SURRENDER OF AN EMPIRE, N.H. Webster, 1931, p. 77)

57. The same source above states, "At about the same time, Trotsky (Jew) arrived from the United States, followed by over 300 Jews from the East End of New York," (page 73).

58. Edward Ross in his RUSSIAN BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION writes, "This is why refugees, obscure to us although not to the Russians, who in exile had been obliged to work in our steel mills and tailor shops for a living, former residents of New York's East side, '...will rise to be the heads of the soviets and, later, cabinet ministers of a government ruling a tenth of the human race." Ross was in FAVOR of them and he ends this portion with, "In all modern history there is no romance like it!"

59. Frank Britton put it a little more bluntly, "Soon these hords of returning Jews would exercise the power of life and death over 150 million Christian Russians. Soon every factory, every government bureau, every school district, and every army would function under the gimlet eye of a Jewish Commisar. Soon the blood of human beings would be oozing from under the doors of the communist execution chambers as tens of thousands of Christian men and women were butchered like cattle in a slaughter house. Soon five million landowners would be deliberately starved to death as part of a premeditated plan. Soon a move would be under way to exterminate the gentile leader class of the entire nation by murdering every Christian factory owner, and lawyer, and government leader, and army officer, and every other person who had been, or might be, a potential leader. Soon the standing population of the slave-labor camps would exceed 16 million. Soon every church and cathedral would be gutted, and every priest and preacher would become a criminal in his own community. Soon Russia would have a zombie-proletariat, docile, willing to work, easily controlled, incapable of revolt...When the Bolsheviks came to power, they systematically undertook to destroy every vestige of opposition by exterminating the upper classes of Russian society. The fury of the RED Terror can be explained ONLY AS A MANIFESTATION OF JEWISH HATRED AGAINST CHRISTIAN CIVILIZATION. (emphasis added)...Such was the 'romance' of the Bolshevik revolution." Frank Britton gives many pages of documented terror, and then sums it up, "the total effect was much the same as it would be in any country. With its small middle and upper class exterminated, Russia's peasant and worker population accepted Jewish Bolshevism without protest. The Russian masses, deprived of its spokesmen and leaders WAS SIMPLY INCAPABLE OF COUNTER-REVOLUTION. That was what the RED Terror set out to accomplish." (above from BEHIND COMMUNISM, 96 pages, profusely illustrated and documented.) Without going into more gory details of the Jewish murder of millions of their Christian captives, of which you can plead ignorance, it hardly seems possible you can be ignorant of more recent news about "communism, such as:

60. After World War II the following Jews ruled in Europe: Rakosi in Hungary, Jacob Berman in Poland, Anna Pauker in Roumania, Rudophy Slansky in Czecholslovakia, and Kagonovich in Russia (through Stalin). Even non-Jews such as Tito of Yugoslavia were controlled by Jews. John Gunther in BEHIND THE IRON CURTAIN writes of the Jew Mosa Pijade, "He is Tito's mentor -- whatever ideological structure Tito may have, he got from his shrewd old man."

61. In America the Jew Gerhart Eisler ran the Communist Party from 1935 to 1947. His right hand man was J. Peters whose real name was Goldberger and he is Jewish. Today, six of the top nine Party officers are Jews.

62. In 1945 six men were arrested for stealing government secrets in the "Amerasia" case. Three were Jews.

63. In 1946, a Canadian spy ring was broken up. Among its members were Dr. Ravmond Bover (wife Anita Cohen - Jewess), David Shugar, J. Isador Gottheir, Israel Halperin, and Samuel Carr (Cohen). Its leader was Fred Rose (Rosenberg).

64. In 1949 the twelve members of the National Secretariat of the American Communist Party were tried under then existing laws. Six of the twelve were known Jews, three more may have been. All were convicted and served short sentences or were fined.

65. In 1950 ten Hollywood writers and directors were convicted of contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions about their communist connections. Nine WERE JEWS and six of them were party members!

66. After the conviction of the above, the second string "politburo" took over the American Communist Party. Of these twenty-one, fourteen were Jews, one was mistress of a Jew, and two were colored.

67. The spy trials of the 1950's, which you must remember, were almost 100% Jewish. The Jew Klaus Fuchs (who was admitted to the U. S. at the request of Albert Einstein) was found out first; then followed Harry Gold, David Greenglass, Abraham Broth man, Miriam Moskowitz, Sidney Weinbaum, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg (who received the death sentence) and Morton Sobell. Before the whole thing was over others such as J. Robert Oppenheimer, Frank Oppenheimer, and a "Steve Nelson" came under investigation. "Steve Nelson" turned out to be a Mr. Mesarosh, a Jew, and his contact was a Joseph W. Weinberg of the University of Minnesota!

68. "Civil Rights" movements, negro agitation organizations such as the NAACP, CORE, SNCC, etc. are organized and controlled by Jews. The "anti-war," "peace," "Women's Lib," and other "minority" agitation and revolutionary groups have mostly Jews in their upper leadership. Hasn't this made you at least curious?

69. Hollywood studios turn out hundreds of anti-nazi movies, thousands of pro-communist ones, AND NO ANTI-COMMUNIST MOVIES. Jewish control of that "industry" is known by all and is openly admitted. Why haven't you ministers even wondered about that? Television, with Jewish control of the networks and productions, follows the same line. The same corrupting influence can be traced in liquor, pornography, prostitution, rock music, drugs, sex-education, sensitivity training, subtle and open promotion of youth rebellion, anti-Bible and anti-Christian laws and court decisions and attitudes, and on and on and on. You express sorrow; sometimes even anger, at the corruption, BUT YOU NEVER EXPOSE ITS JEWISH SOURCE, WHY?

WHAT DO YOUR LIES DO TO YOUR PEOPLE IN AMERICA?

70. God's Holy Word, the Bible, warns His Israel People of her enemies in the end of the age. A great invasion of Israel nations is foretold, especially in EZEKIEL 38 and 39. It takes but little vision to see that if the "Jews" of today are actually the Edomite-Khazar-Mongols (Magog of Ezekiel 38) who are behind and ruled Russian and World Socialism, then Ezekiel really prophesied an invasion of the Saxon Israel nations by the people we call "Jews." AND THAT INVASION IS WELL UNDER WAY! Meanwhile you hide it from Christian-Israel by telling your flock that Ezekiel 38 and 39 is a prophecy of a future invasion of Jewish-occupied Palestine by the "Russians." The Khazar-Jews in Palestine and their counterparts in Moscow carry out a so-called "war", in which only Arabs get hurt, AND YOU PREACH THAT SHAM IS A FULFILLMENT OF BIBLE PROPHECY! True Israel remains blind to her danger, and to her destiny.

SPECIAL TO "LUTHERAN" MINISTERS

This is not numbered and is directed to those who think they follow the teachings of Martin Luther, the great German reformer. (Translated from BIBLISCHES SPRUCH U. SCHATZ-KASTLEIN by Karl Fliedner.) In the first part Luther complains of the Jews "squeezing from us our money and goods," and of their, "lying, blaspheming, and cursing," and then he admonishes "We should not suffer it...lest we become partakers of their sins."

Then he goes on. "I will give you my true council: First, that we avoid their synagogues and schools and WARN PEOPLE AGAINST THEM. And such should be done to the glory of God and Christendom, that God may see that we are Christians, AND HAVE NOT KNOWINGLY TOLERATED SUCH LYING, CURSING AND BLASHPEMING OF HIS SON AND HIS CHRISTIANS..." On the Talmud: "The heathen philosophers write much more honourably not only about God's government and future life, but also about temporal virtues. They write that man is by nature obligated to serve others, also to keep his word to enemies, and be true and helpful to them especially in need, as taught by Cicero and his like. Yea, I maintain THAT IN THREE FABLES OF AESOP THERE IS MORE WISDOM TO BE FOUND THAN IN ALL THE BOOKS OF THE TALMUDISTS AND RABBIS..."

Yet "Lutheran" ministers think Judaism is the predecessor of Christianity!

Luther wrote on economic bondage to them: "Why, they hold us Christians in captivity in our own country; they let us work in the sweat of our noses, while they appropriate money and goods...live well and easy on goods for which we have worked, keep us and our goods in captivity THROUGH THEIR CURSED USURY (Interest), mock us and spit on us, because we must labor and permit them to be noblemen at our expense; thus they are our lords and masters we their servants with our own property, sweat and labor! AND TO THANK US AND REWARD US, THEY CURSE OUR LORD!" (emphasis added)

Today, Luther's writings on the great problems of his day have been almost eliminated from Lutheran books and seminaries. Nothing of his writings on the "Jews" are allowed to be taught in "Lutheran" seminaries.

6,000,000 JEWS

You ministers often repeat the Jew story that "Hitler killed six million Jews," yet the 1939 World Almanac shows 15,688,259 Jews in the world and nine years later the New York Times reported there where between 15,600,000 and 18,700,000 Jews! If Hitler killed six million, how come there were no less in 1948 than in 1939? The same sources report the Jews in Germany in 1938, PRIOR TO THE SUPPOSED KILLINGS, totaled only 550,000 (1/2 million!)

If Germans killed 38% of all Jews in the world, does that mean the 9,688,259 left had six to nine million children in the next nine years? It takes normal populations 100 years to double--how come Jews did it in nine? AND THEN NEVER DID IT AGAIN? (Present world population of "Jews" is about the same as it was in 1948) Why do you repeat this Jewish propaganda lie to your flock?

THE INDIANS AND THE WHITE MAN
At this point the following questions might be asked: What about the Indians? Weren't they here first? Didn't we (the white race) take this land away from the Indian? Doesn't the Indian have the rightful title to America?
Since we are dealing with a conflict between two nations or races, the white race and the Indian race, we need to turn to the Law of Nations or International Law for the solution. The following are some basic maxims of the International Law:

FIRST: That every nation possesses and exclusive sovereignty and jurisdiction in its own territory.

SECOND: That no state or nation can by its law directly affect or bind property that lies outside of its own territory, or persons not resident therein.

THIRD: That whatever force the laws of one country have in another depends solely on the municipal laws of the latter.(5)

The first principle listed here would seem to suggest that all of America was the possession of the Indians prior to the age of discovery of the white race. However, the Indians never laid claim to all the "territory" of America because they had no understanding of its size and boundaries. The Indian only claimed the land he was inhabiting and that which he used for hunting, burial, etc. At the time of discovery (circa 1500 A.D.), the American Indian numbered about 700,000 inhabitants, sparsely scattered over what is now America. Thus the Indians never had a legal claim to much more than 3% of the land at any one time. So it can be said that the Indians did have a legal claim to America, 3% of it, which was considered their "own territory."

In light of this, it cannot be said that the white race violated the second principle of International Law either, since 97% of America was not legally the "property" of anyone. When America was claimed by the English, French, and Spanish, they claimed the entire breadth and width of the land, from sea to sea, from one boundary to the next. However, the lands that the Indians occupied within these European claims were still Indian land.
It must also be addressed as to whether the white man encroached upon and took possession of the lands that were legally claimed by the Indian. The third maxim of International Law says we have to look at the Indian's law, and that whatever measures or acts the white man took in regards to Indian land must be pursuant to Indian law. The following are some of the laws that were generally held by the Indians:

1. It was a law common among Indians that the stronger of two tribes or people (nations) has the right to conquer and subdue the weaker.

2. Under Indian common law it was understood that land claims existed by inhabiting the land and by any use of the land.

3. When any land was unoccupied or not used for one year, the land was free for anyone to claim and settle.

This first law of the Indian could actually render all other arguments of land rights academic. This law was almost a way of life with the Indian, which is why they were always warring among themselves. The wars and conflicts between the white race and the Indian race throughout history were numerous, and the fact that the white race was the stronger cannot be doubted.

According to the third Indian law listed, the white man, or any man or nation, had the right to possess the vast lands that were uninhabited or unclaimed by the Indian in America. Since the Indians never claimed the American continent from Atlantic to Pacific the lands claimed by right of discovery are valid. Thus, the only legal conflict that can exist lies with the 3% of land the Indian had a legal claim to in America, in accordance to the second Indian law listed.

In spite of the legal right the white race has to America we often are confronted with the anti-American propaganda that the white race wronged the Indian by attacking and killing them and driving them out of their land. We thus need to look at the first conflicts that existed between the Indians and the colonial settlers. A summary of these first conflicts shows they were always initiated by the Indians:

Shortly after the first colony was established at Jamestown in 1607, the settlers were attacked by the Indians, who wounded seventeen men and killed one boy.

After the above conflict, peaceful relations prevailed, due to the wise policy of the Captain John Smith and the good will of Powhatan, head chief of the Indian Confederacy. When Powhatan died in 1618, his brother Opechancanough, who disliked the English, began to plot war. In March 1622, the Indian tribes went on the warpath, and swept through a line of settlements marked by a trail of blood. In the white settlements, nearly 400 men, women, and children, were cruelly put to death before the ravages of the Indians could be checked.

For 22 years after the massacre of 1622 there was peace. But Opechancanouch, at last head chief, only waited for another opportunity. In 1644, there was a civil war in England, and he through the expected moment was at hand. The massacre he waged left over 300 white settlers slain in two days. Again the white took up arms in defense, and in 1646 the aged chief himself was taken and killed - there was never again a general uprising in Virginia.

In the Plymouth colony, a peace compact was established between the Indian chief Massasiot and Governor Carver. As time went on, the friendly old chief died. When his son, King Philip, came to be ruler of the Wampanoag tribe, trouble began to brew for the colonists. Urged on by his braves, King Philip began sending messages to friendly tribes, inviting them to join in a mighty war on the "pale faces". The war that followed was a terrible one. The Indians, avoiding the white troops, dodging them, and never meeting them face to face in the open field, carried on the contest in their savage way of massacring the helpless, and burning villages. Many a fair and quite settlement was made desolate. Women and children were ruthlessly murdered, and burned in the houses. But by the end of 1675 the force of the Indians was broken.

In the New Haven colony the situation with the Indians (the Pequets) was similar. At first there were peaceful relationships between them and the white settlers. During 1637, the Pequots attempted to organize a confederacy, but unable to secure the help of the Narragansetts due to the influence of Roger Williams, they took the warpath alone. They did not come out in open to battle, but waylaid a party of whites and killed thirty of them. In response to this, a small party of English, along with some seventy friendly Indians, attacked the Pequet stronghold, killing over 450 of that tribe. The great Pequet tribe was crushed, and nearly forty years of Peace ensued.

History reveals that all the early hostilities and wars between the American Indians and the white settlers, were instigated or started by the Indians without just cause. Even though the white settlers had legal title to the land by way of purchase or claim of unoccupied lands, the Indian was always the one to disrupt peaceful relations with attacks, massacres, and wars. The retaliation by the white settlers were merely acts of self defense and self preservation in accordance with the law of nature. Thus it was the Indian who was the intruder and violator of land rights and of his own law. It was the Indian who, in the beginning, wronged the white man. The Indian's treachery, barbaric and warlike manner, and sneak attacks on the colonists was positive proof of the anti-social nature of the red man. This exhibit of the Indian's character caused much distrust of the Indian, and became the "code of conduct" which the Indians continued to live by and uphold in the future.

Thus, the white race has a rightful and legal claim and title to America pursuant to international law, the Indian's law, the law of nature, and by a combination thereof.

It very much appears that the Indians met a roaming tribe stronger than themselves. Tribes of people have been overrun for thousands of years but the "bad white man" syndrome has been with us only a short time.

Their government sought removal of any other tribe through warfare but as a primitive culture in social administration they could never develop a Tommahawk missle (one of the Navy's best).

In the 18th century, historians discovered exciting proof of Phoenician-Celtic ties. An ancient Roman dramatist, Titus Maccius Plautus (died 184 B.C.) wrote a play, the Penulus in which he placed then current Phoenician into the speech of one of his characters. In the 18th century, linguists noticed the great similarity between that Phoenician and the early Irish Celtic language. In the adjacent box is a sample given by historian Thomas Moore's, History of Ireland, showing the connection between these languages. Leading 18th and 19th century scholars, such as Gen. Charles Vallancey, Lord Rosse, and Sir William Betham, also wrote on this subject.
